Kayleigh and Dan - Hotel Du Vin - Birmingham Wedding Photography

If you're looking for city centre chic, Kay and Dan have it nailed! I just love the fact that, tucked away in a grand old Victorian building in the centre of Birmingham, totally unbeknownst to passers by on the street below, these two gorgeous people were tying the knot in front of their nearest and dearest. Check out Kayleigh's gorgeous dress from The Bridal Lounge Accrington. Kayleigh and Dan's Hotel du Vin Birmingham wedding back in February was wet and windy outside for s

    The DARKROOM - Sarah Louise

Its hard to believe Sarah Louise isn't a professional model. In fact, she was nominated for this shoot by her friend Laura whose wedding I shot in 2015, so hats off to her for helping me achieve some really beautiful frames. I admire her courage in turning up for a Dark Room shoot out in the depths of Worcestershire. It was important to Sarah Louise to have her photos taken outdoors and make the most of the spring weather and colours, so following my suggestion, we parked the

Sarah and Sajjad - Birmingham Botanical Gardens Engagement Shoot

What a colourful engagement shoot! Birmingham Botanical Gardens never fails to deliver on the colour front, even in Autumn, when Sarah and Sajjads Engagement shoot took place. These two were so easy to work with, it was such a pleasure capturing their relationship in the most honest way. After the Botanical Gardens we took a drive over to Lewis' Cafe in Moseley for some more retro colour delights. Sarah and Sajjad, congratulations for your wedding in Florida, it was such a jo

2016 - Love, wedding and engagement

Welcome to my 2016 year review. Its almost obligatory for us photographers to do a little run through of their year in weddings and it does always prove quite therapeutic, even through the task seems so mammoth to begin with. Looking back through, I realise the simpler the photo, the more it works for me. I'm not entirely sure what I mean by simple, but perhaps its a sort of purity in connection between the couples, a clean composition and an expression or a moment that doesn

Lola Love - Documentary Family Photography

Your small fingers with their peely skin, the softness of your hair behind your ear, the tiny noises you make when we don't expect it. Everthing about this little lady is so perfect. No photoshopping, no posing, just you as you, the way you are right now. Documentary family photography starts with what is happening right now. It doesn't interfere, its really a bystander to the main event, watching and recording. As a photographer, there is an element of constructing and compo

My newsletter got published! - Professional Photography Magazine

I was chuffed to bits to have been interviewed about my newsletter alongside Kevin Mullins Photography, Sofie Michelle Photography, Craig Fleming, Jenny Stewart Photography and Michael Clark Photography for Professional Photography Magazine. The magazine also features an interview with one of my all time favourite photographers - the legend that is Martin Parr (can't believe something I've done has been printed in the same publication as his interview!) The article finished u

    Cameron

Cameron came to visit me in my photography studio for its first week of opening. Apart from being drop dead gorgeous, he is such a lovely guy - really down to earth, I very much enjoyed working with Cameron and building his modelling portfolio. I always try to make the most of available light and fortunately for me and my clients, my new studio has plenty. We stayed indoors mainly for Cameron's profile shots and then had a wander around Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter includi

Helené - Birmingham Documentary Photography (Personal Project)

Chiaroscuro is Italian for 'light-dark' and is described in art is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. I was introduced to this term when I began photographing this project. It felt as appropriate for the aesthetic of the work as it is for my subject - in theis case, Helené. This is Helené. She is a potter, a writer, a climber, a vegan and animal rights welfare campaigner. She also happens to be deafblind.

Rachel and Richard - Birmingham Wedding Photography at St.George's Church and Birmingham Botanic

Rachel and Richard are like rare birds, their beauty is such that you cant help but stop and look. Their wedding day at St.George's Church Edgbaston and then Birmingham Botanical Gardens was just perfect. Both Rachel and Richard have occupations in the Military, so it would only be proper to have a traditional wedding compete with sword arch, Bavarian Oompa band and whisky (of course there's whisky). I second shot their wedding along with Simon Brettel Photography whose websi

    Foley Family Lifestyle Shoot

You probably don't remember, but back in October I ran a small newsletter and Facebook competition to win a 'Couples Lifestyle Shoot'. The aim was to find a couple who were really keen for me to document their relationship, their lives and how they live it together. I wanted to capture something real, touching and ultimately their love as they expereince it every day. Well, I was blown away by some of the responses I recieved and I'm sure Tracey wont mind me sharing hers with

Ruben and Julie - Birmingham Documentary Photography

A little while ago, I started a personal project photographing people working in Health and Social Care sector, in particular, those who work as a carer. Having worked as a carer myself, I am interested by the similarities, but also the differences of people working this kind of job. The care workers project is on-going, but it has also spawned another project, working and photographing children with disability and additional needs. I was introduced to Ruben and Julie through

WHY YOUR PRINTS ARE SO IMPORTANT

"We are in a digital dark age", or so the Google's vice president Vint Cerf told us in last Fridays Metro newspaper. Just think now about all the outmoded forms of storage - floppy disks, VHS, even CD's. Try to find a machine that will read these devices... scary! We all love using social media as our go to for sharing our lives - for Birthdays, our children's first steps, our achievements (not to mention our countless culinary feats) and even Wedding photos. Its the quickest

BAL'S FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT - Birmingham Family Photographer

Bal has a lovely family. Her son is very expressive and has an amazing imagination. Her daughter is so much wiser and older than her years let on. She is super protective over her brother and also their Jack Russell pup. I got to know them through SAFS in Smethwick, Birmingham. I've worked with SAFS on a number of occasions, they do amazing work with families with disability. Bal's family were dubious about going out of the house, so we did the whole mini-shoot in their garde

SAFS MUSIC SESSION - Learning Disability Birmingham

Here's a few photos from SAFS music session with their Lifestyles group in Smethwick a couple of weeks ago! The weekly session is hosted by musicians Jon and Ray whose enthusiasm for the project is admirable. Jon and Ray bring in their instruments, guitars, drums etc, stick on some classic tunes and everyone starts jammin'. Simple. Self-expression and freedom to make whatever kind of music you like is the first goal of the session. The second is to be as loud as you possibly

    THE ART OF STORY TELLING

One of my clients recently reminded me of the importance of storytelling. Sounds a bit daft, but when you shoot almost every day for whatever reason, you sometimes forget to notice what other people identify in your work. My Grandad was the worlds best storyteller. Infact, I based one of my second year uni projects around him doing just this. The project was no doubt very poorly executed (it was nearly 10 years ago, gah) and at this point I'd never really put a camera to my e

THE RAI FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT - Birmingham Family Photo's in Sandwell Valley Country Park

What a beautiful family! I met the Rai's in Sandwell Valley Country Park on a Sunday afternoon. The weather was great and after a bit of a pep talk, they were happy to have an amble around the park for their photo shoot. Their initial reservation about having photo's taken in public were quickly dispelled once we got going. I think they were also at put at ease by knowing that if anyone was going to get attention, it would have been me, hiding in bushes and hopping through fl

SALLY'S FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT - Ilfracombe family photos

One thing I love about my job as a photographer is that I wind up meeting people and finding myself in places that I wouldn't have found by myself. This particular instance is a family photo shoot in Ilfracome, Devon. Sally Daniel, owner of Henley Chocolates asked me if I would travel to meet them at their stunning holiday home in a renovated farm house. The family have been going back to the same place for a few years now and Sally saw this as an opportunity to document thei

    Receiving your Wedding Photo Book

Paul was kind enough to let me take a few shots of him as he unpacked his Wedding Photo Book for the first time. Together we worked on a layout that was clean and timeless - there are no jazzy borders or special effects in my Wedding Photo Books, we let the pictures speak for themselves. The design is for simplicity and elegance - I know most things go out of date quite quickly, but I want you to be able to enjoy these photo's in 20 years time. Nothing compares to a print, th

SARAH AND CHRIS - The Slaughters Country Inn Wedding

Sarah and Chris' intimate wedding took place in the beautiful Slaughters Country Inn over in the Cotswolds. Theirs was one of the most emotional ceremonies I have ever had the pleasure to witness. I managed to hold back my tears for the ceremony (a few escaped) and had a lovely time with their close family and friends enjoying the afternoon sunshine in the hotel grounds. Sarah's beautiful dress was made by Annasul-Y from Grafton Manor Bridal and the delicious nude cake was cr

SUMMERTIME (and the livin' is easy) - Edgbaston Photo Shoot

It took me a while to think of a name for this shoot. Then slowly, as I worked on the edit, I began to hear Ella Fitzgerald's timeless classic 'Summertime' in my head. It feels apt to have a timeless song for a timeless beauty - may I present Alice once again. This time she is at home in her Fathers in Edgbaston. Having left everything till the last minute - we pushed ourselves to dream up ideas for our mini shoot upon arriving at the house. Myself, Stephanie Alice and Carol
